Stansted to Heathrow, south and west

Stansted to Heathrow chauffeur service is a private car with a licensed driver that collects you in Stansted's arrivals hall and delivers you to the Heathrow terminal your airline flies from. Most passengers arrive at Stansted on a European flight and fly long-haul from Heathrow.

The drive covers about 65 miles and lasts around 74 minutes with steady traffic. It runs down the M11 and anticlockwise round the northern M25, avoiding central London completely.

Your flight is tracked from take-off, so the driver is in arrivals with your name when you come through, and the first 60 minutes after landing carry no waiting charge.

Every Vinta driver holds a Transport for London private hire licence and a DBS check, and the company is licensed as TfL Operator 73850301. Couples and families flying home long-haul make up much of the demand, along with business travellers heading back to the United States after a European trip.

This page sets out the motorway route, the Stansted pickup and Heathrow terminal drop, the rail option through Liverpool Street, how to handle separate tickets and luggage, and which car suits a long-haul load.

Executive chauffeur service
M11 south · M25 junctions 27 to 15

Down the M11, round the northern M25

Leaving Stansted, the car joins the M11 at junction 8 and heads south to the M25 at junction 27. It then runs anticlockwise past the A1(M), the M1 and the M40 before reaching junction 15 for Heathrow's central terminals, or junction 14 for Terminal 4.

The northern M25 usually moves better than the southern and western stretches. Even so, the driver checks for roadworks and incidents before you land, and the quoted fare holds whatever they find.

The M11 itself is among the calmer motorways around London, especially south of Harlow, and the airport road feeds straight onto it at junction 8, so the first twenty minutes are rarely the slow part.

Met at Stansted, dropped at the right Heathrow terminal

Stansted's single terminal keeps the pickup simple. Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with your name as you leave the baggage hall, then walks you to the car.

At Heathrow, the car goes straight to your airline's terminal: Terminal 5 for British Airways, Terminal 2 for many Star Alliance airlines, or Terminals 3 and 4 for others. You're set down at departures, not at a bus stop.

After a European city break

Stansted is Ryanair's busiest base, so many passengers on this route have just flown in from Rome, Barcelona, Kraków or Dublin. Arrivals from Schengen countries pass through UK border control, while Dublin flights, inside the Common Travel Area, usually don't.

That difference can be an hour at busy times. It's why your driver follows the flight and the arrivals hall rather than a fixed clock.

Late arrivals and Heathrow hotels

Stansted handles a wave of late-evening arrivals. After about 22:00 the M11 and the northern M25 are usually quiet, so the drive to a Heathrow hotel before an early flight can come in well under the hour and a quarter.

If you're staying the night near Heathrow, give the hotel as your drop-off instead of a terminal. The fare is calculated for that address.

Separate tickets and your luggage

Arriving on Ryanair and departing on another airline almost always means separate bookings. Your bags come off the belt at Stansted and need checking in again at Heathrow, so build both steps into the plan.

Stansted Express and the Elizabeth line, compared

By rail, take the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street and the Elizabeth line straight to Heathrow. It's one change, but Liverpool Street is busy and the Elizabeth line is a commuter railway at peak times, not a luggage train. National Express runs a direct coach too, on a fixed timetable.

A chauffeur makes most sense for couples and families with long-haul cases, and for anyone landing late in the evening.

A stop on the way

Sometimes the journey has a second purpose, such as dropping a colleague in north London or collecting a bag from a hotel. The booking form takes up to three stops between Stansted and Heathrow, and the fare you pay already includes them. A stop adds time as well as extra miles, so leave room for it in the connection.

Protecting the Heathrow flight

Leave at least four hours between landing at Stansted and your Heathrow departure. Long-haul check-in often closes an hour before take-off, and security at Terminal 5 or Terminal 2 can take a while at busy times. Landing from a Schengen country on a summer weekend? Add half an hour for the border queue.

The right car for long-haul luggage

Two people with large cases fit a Business Class saloon. For a family, the Mercedes-Benz Vito carries 8 passengers and 10 bags, with child seats fitted on request.
