Crossing from Heathrow to Stansted

Heathrow to Stansted chauffeur service means a private car and a licensed driver booked in advance to carry you between London's biggest airport and its third busiest. Most passengers on this run land at Heathrow from North America, Asia or the Middle East and fly on from Stansted, the largest base in Ryanair's network.

The road distance is about 66 miles and the drive takes around 78 minutes when traffic is light. It follows the northern half of the M25 and finishes on the M11, so there's no crossing of central London at all.

Your driver tracks the incoming flight, waits with a name board once you clear baggage reclaim and gives you the first 60 minutes after landing at no charge. Each Vinta chauffeur carries a Transport for London private hire licence and a DBS check, under TfL Operator Licence 73850301.

It's a sensible choice for groups flying out together on a stag, hen or sports weekend, when one van keeps everyone and their bags in the same place. Business travellers use the hour and a quarter to answer email before the next flight.

This page covers the clockwise motorway route, where you're met at Heathrow and dropped at Stansted's single terminal, the rail and coach alternatives, the connection time to allow and which car fits your group.

Executive chauffeur service
Junction 15 to junction 27 · M11 north

Clockwise round the M25, then the M11

From Heathrow the car joins the M25 and runs clockwise through the north-west, passing the M40 at junction 16, the M1 at junction 21 and the A1(M) at junction 23. At junction 27 it leaves for the M11 and heads north to junction 8, where the Stansted road branches off.

That northern arc usually flows better than the western and southern sections. Roadworks and a Friday exodus can still slow it, so the chauffeur checks the traffic feed before leaving and plans around any closure. The price agreed at booking stays fixed, and the last few miles bring you straight to Stansted's forecourt.

Your Heathrow pickup and the Stansted drop

Heathrow collections happen inside arrivals at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5. Your driver holds a board with your name, meets you after customs and walks the luggage to the car.

Stansted has one passenger terminal, which keeps the far end simple. The car stops at the departures set-down beside the terminal building, a short walk from the check-in desks.

Connecting to a Ryanair flight at Stansted

Ryanair operates most of Stansted's departures, and its rules shape this connection. The airline expects you to check in online before reaching the airport, and its bag drop closes 40 minutes before departure.

So the drive itself is useful time. With over an hour in the back seat, you can check in, download the boarding pass and confirm your bag allowance before the car reaches the M11. Arriving with that done means you walk straight to bag drop or security.

Rail, coach or car from Heathrow to Stansted

No train runs directly between the two airports. The rail option is the Elizabeth line into Liverpool Street and then the Stansted Express, a change that means lifting bags between platforms. National Express coaches run direct, with journeys typically around 80 minutes or longer depending on stops and traffic.

A chauffeur avoids both the change and the timetable. You leave Heathrow when your bags arrive, not when the next departure is due, and if immigration takes longer than planned the car is still there. For two or three people travelling together, the gap in cost narrows once separate coach or rail tickets are added up.

How much time to leave between flights

Plan on at least four hours between landing at Heathrow and departing from Stansted. That covers immigration, the drive of well over an hour and Stansted's security queues, which can be long on summer mornings. Low-cost carriers close bag drop early, so check your airline's cut-off.

Cars for a long motorway run

For one to three people, a First Class car such as the Mercedes S-Class suits the longer drive, with space for 2 large bags. The Business Van/SUV, a Mercedes V-Class, seats 7 people with 7 cases, and child seats can be fitted on request.

Questions

Heathrow to Stansted questions answered

The points travellers raise before booking this cross-London run.

No, there isn't a direct train. The quickest rail route uses the Elizabeth line to Liverpool Street and the Stansted Express from there, so you'll change trains once in central London.

Stansted is about 66 miles from Heathrow by road. The route uses the M25 clockwise and the M11, and a typical drive takes around 78 minutes outside rush hour.

All four: Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5. Give us your flight number and the chauffeur waits in the correct arrivals hall.

Yes, the coach costs less per seat, but it runs to a timetable and can't wait for a delayed flight. For two or more people with luggage, a private car often closes much of that gap and removes the waiting.

Flight tracking is live monitoring of your flight's real landing time. Your driver adjusts the pickup to match, so an early or late arrival never leaves you waiting or charged extra.

Yes. Child and booster seats are fitted on request at booking, and a Mercedes-Benz Vito carries up to 8 passengers with space for a folded buggy.

Your chauffeur drops you at the departures set-down, the closest point to check-in. Leaving a four-hour gap between flights protects the connection when summer queues build.

Yes. Payment is taken by card when you book, and the booking is confirmed once it clears. There's nothing to hand the driver at Stansted.
