Heathrow to Gatwick by private chauffeur

A Heathrow to Gatwick chauffeur service is a pre-booked private car, driven by a licensed chauffeur, that collects you from a Heathrow terminal and drops you at your Gatwick departure terminal. It suits one traveller above all: someone who lands on a long-haul flight and leaves again from the other airport the same day.

The drive covers about 42 miles and takes around 56 minutes in light traffic, nearly all of it on the M25 and the M23. Your chauffeur tracks the inbound flight, stands in the arrivals hall with a name board and allows 60 minutes of free waiting after touchdown, so a slow passport queue or a late baggage belt never changes the fixed price.

Every Vinta driver holds a Transport for London private hire licence and a DBS check, and the company runs under TfL Operator Licence 73850301. Cars range from an E-Class saloon for one business traveller to a 19-seat Sprinter for a tour group.

Below you'll find the motorway route and its junctions, where the driver meets you at Heathrow's four terminals, how the car compares with the coach and the train, and how much time to leave before a Gatwick bag drop closes.

Executive chauffeur service
M25 anticlockwise · Junction 15 to junction 7

The M25 and M23 run, junction by junction

Leaving Heathrow, the car joins the M25 at junction 14 or 15 and heads anticlockwise past Staines, the M3 at junction 12 and the Wisley interchange at junction 10. At junction 7 it swings south onto the M23 and exits at junction 9, the dedicated Gatwick spur. It's motorway almost all the way, with no central London traffic to sit in.

But the south-west quarter of the M25 is among the busiest roads in Britain. Weekday rush hours and Friday afternoons can push the drive well past an hour, so your chauffeur checks live traffic before setting off. Whatever the motorway does, the fare stays where it was when you booked, and the car still ends at your Gatwick terminal.

Meeting you at Heathrow, dropping you at Gatwick

Pickups work the same way at Terminal 2 (the Queen's Terminal), Terminal 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5, British Airways' home. The driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name once you've cleared baggage reclaim, takes the trolley and walks you to the short-stay car park.

Gatwick has two terminals, North and South, joined by a free shuttle train. Tell us your airline and the chauffeur pulls up at the correct forecourt, so there's no switching terminals with a stack of cases after a long flight.

Dawn arrivals and a quieter M25

Many long-haul flights from North America and Asia touch down at Heathrow between 05:00 and 07:00. At that hour the motorway is usually at its emptiest, so the drive to Gatwick often comes in under the hour and leaves you early for check-in.

Your chauffeur works to your landing time, not office hours, and a dawn pickup costs what the booking page showed. Once at Gatwick, you can wait landside in either terminal until your airline opens its bag drop.

Chauffeur, coach or train between the airports

National Express runs a direct coach between Heathrow and Gatwick, and it's the cheapest way to make the trip. Rail means crossing central London with at least one change, usually the Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express into town and a Thameslink or Gatwick Express service out again.

So with luggage and a departure time to hit, the private car wins on simplicity. It leaves when you walk out, carries every bag to the kerb and holds the quoted fare, which already covers fuel, tolls and parking.

Leaving enough time for the Gatwick check-in

Work the connection backwards from your Gatwick bag drop. Add Heathrow immigration, roughly an hour on the road and security at Gatwick. Many airlines close bag drop 40 to 60 minutes before departure, so a gap under four hours between flights starts to feel tight.

Choosing a car for the M25

A Business Class saloon such as the Mercedes E-Class takes 3 passengers and 3 bags. Families carrying ski bags or golf clubs usually pick the Mercedes-Benz Vito, which seats 8 with room for 10 cases, and the Sprinter minibus carries up to 19 people.

Questions

Heathrow to Gatwick, your questions

Straight answers for passengers changing airports on the same day.

The drive takes about 56 minutes in light traffic for roughly 42 miles. Weekday peaks on the M25 can stretch it towards 90 minutes, which is why the chauffeur reads live traffic and sets off with a margin.

Yes. The chauffeur follows your flight number and moves the pickup to the real landing time, then allows the first hour of waiting free of charge. A delayed arrival into Heathrow adds nothing to your fare.

Collections run from Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 at Heathrow and drops go to Gatwick's North or South Terminal. Share your flight numbers when booking and both ends are matched for you.

Usually, yes, because the car circles London on the M25 while rail passes through it. The train needs at least one change in the city and a walk between platforms; the car runs kerb to kerb.

Meet and greet means your driver waits inside the arrivals hall with a board showing your name. You spot them as you leave baggage reclaim, and they handle the trolley on the way to the car.

Yes, with at least 3 hours' notice before pickup. For Friday or Saturday mornings in summer, when Gatwick's holiday flights are busiest, booking a day or two ahead is wiser.

The fare covers the car, a licensed driver, fuel, tolls and airport parking, flight tracking and the waiting hour. There's no surge pricing or meter, and payment is taken by card when you book.

Per car. One fare covers everyone in the vehicle you choose, so four people sharing a Mercedes V-Class pay a single price rather than four.
